Newsletter of Hope - In the quiet place

In the quiet place

I was sharing last month how busy I was with my work and life in general.  How I was hungering for more time with the Lord.  The month of September brought me to the place of finding that quiet place with the Lord once again.  I had been in that place of busyness for a number of months and found it difficult to quiet my mind.

This was due to the work load at work, and because of this other things had to wait to be done, so my list was continually growing.  Any time I had off work I used to catch up on the things at home and shopping for the things needed.

My husband and I had been inspired to buy a touring caravan and decided to go away to a quiet place for a weeks holiday.  We went to a beautiful forest park, with beautiful scenery and walks.  I could not have asked for anything better.  I loved the peace and quiet, with not too many people, with no demands.

I still found my mind unsettled, I was still making lists of things to do, but I was slowly slowing down, I was decompressing which would be the word I would describe what was happening.  I had big plans to do some reading, to do some writing, but all I could manage was a little writing. What I did manage to do was go for a good walk every day and take in the beauty of what God had created, talking to the Lord and enjoying His splendour.

God wants us to be in that place of rest at all times, even in those times of busyness, those times of trials.  I am still growing in that area, and will overcome and be able to stay in that stillness, even in the storms of life.

Jesus withdrew to the mountain to pray, so if He needed to do this how much more do we need to do this, to withdraw from life's busyness and spend that time with the Father, how much more do we need to separate ourselves from the busyness of life and be still with the Lord.  How much more!

Luke 6:12  One day soon afterward Jesus went up on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night.

Matthew 14:23  After he had dismissed the crowds, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.  When it was evening, He was there alone.

On the last day of our holiday at the forest park, I went to take a shower in the building provided, and in that shower cubical there was a wee white stone left by someone with the scripture ‘Be still and know that I am God’.  Psalm 46:10.  I had been reading this scripture that week and knew the Lord was speaking to me.

How do we come out of that quiet place, by choice, by choices we make, it’s a mind set.  For me it has been when I have all whats on my list accomplished then I can relax and spend that quiet time with the Lord. This is wrong, you see I did this many years ago, and at that time I was not saved, but, because of this mind set of trying to do everything on my list, working from early morning to late evening I ended up having a break down because my body could not sustain that abuse, without rest.

When I push through that desire to accomplish that list before spending time with the Lord in that quiet place, I find that the list becomes less important, yet I still accomplish what’s on that list, probably faster than I would had done it if I had done it before my quiet time with the Lord.  So this is what I want to overcome, that mindset to work through my list first before being still with the Lord. I want to turn that around and rest in the Lord first and then do the things that need done. Renewing my mind.

Exodus 14:14  The Lord will fight for you while you (only need to) keep silent and remain calm.

Psalm 62:5  Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.

Psalm 62:8  O my people, trust in him at all times, Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.

Newsletter of Hope - Run to Jesus

Run to Jesus I have been looking at two plants in my garden.  One I just planted has multiplied, increased and is flourishing.  Another plant that I have is not doing so well, the leaves of that plant have been eaten and destroyed by bugs, all that is left are the stems, it is barren and struggling to stay alive. The plant that is flourishing is getting what it needs to live and multiply, what it carries and what is within it resists the bugs.  This plant also can feed livestock, it also has qualities to help with healing of our bodies and has many other uses.  This plant reseeds itself and it creates new plants every year. It also has good deep roots established and not easily removed.  You can take flowers or leaves off this plant and it still stands strong and continues to grow. When we are in a relationship with Jesus, reading His Word, knowing our authority, knowing who we are in Christ, our identity, then we are like the plant that is flourishing.  We...

Newsletter of Hope - Staying Focused

STAYING FOCUSED  I was away 6 days just recently in Scotland.  We went over to attend a Seminar.  When we arrived we decided to walk to the building that the meetings would be held in to give us a guide to how long it would take us to walk in the mornings to arrive on time and also to check out the area and buy some food for meals for our stay at the apartment that we were staying in. The walk involved walking through a forest park that was close to were we were staying. It was a beautiful place.  On the way a beautiful dog came our way off the lead, my attention went to this dog and how lovely its eyes were.  The next thing I know I am on the ground.  I had went down a hole in the ground and went over on my ankle.  My knee on the left was bleeding and bruised and my right foot ankle was sore.   My initial THOUGHTS were ‘Oh no, I’m going to have to go to the hospital and get this checked out, I saw me walking with crutches etc and the da...

Newsletter of Hope - Obedience - what does that look like?

Obedience - what does that look like? Obedience means - compliance with a command.  Obedience may be voluntary or involuntary.  Voluntary obedience alone can be acceptable to God. Abstaining from what is prohibited.  These are a few things that I came across when looking up what Obedience means. Over this last while Holy Spirit has been working with me on my obedience to Him. Obeying His promptings as He shows me and not putting other things first.   When I was out posting the last Newsletter through the doors of my street, I looked down an alleyway and saw a person sitting on the ground.  Instantly, I thought to go and chat to this person to see if they were okay.  Instead of doing that I finished posting the last 3 Newsletters through the doors as that was the last three houses I had to do to finish the job.  When I walked back to the lane that person was gone.  This really caused me to see that I put finishing that job first before b...
